Delta Shuttle Ends 'Extra' Flight Policy
JANUARY 28, 2005 -- Delta Shuttle, which flies the New York-Boston and New York-Washington, D.C.
routes, is abandoning a longstanding policy of adding extra flights when its
regular hourly departures are full.
Delta says it's cutting these flights as part of its broader cost-cutting and
efficiency moves. Previously, travelers rushing to make a shuttle could count on
the airline putting an extra plane in service if a flight filled up. The change
is effective February 1st.
Delta competes on the Northeast routes with the US Airways Shuttle, which does
not add extra flights beyond the scheduled hourly departures. The flights are
known as staples for business travelers going between the nation's capital and
major financial centers.
